What impact does the handicraft industry have on the people of Guatemala?

Being able to produce and sell handicrafts to outside markets has a direct and significant impact by creating jobs in both rural and urban areas.

Where are Guatemalan handicrafts produced?

Guatemalan handicrafts are produced in several indigenous villages in the rural areas of the country.  Each village/town is known for the product(s) it produces.  For example:  Chichicastenango, Panajachel and Samayac are known for their embroidered fabric; Totonicapán for its wood carved articles and ceramic containers; Panajachel and Chichicastenango for their colorful textiles, and so on.

If you have the opportunity to visit Guatemala we recommend you visit the producers in their villages where they live and work. Since at Precious Hands we work closely with our producers and take every opportunity to show them and their work off we would be glad to accompany you or help make arrangements for you to visit them. Please contact us to make arrangements.
